This course emphasizes the development of students’ technique and creative skills relating to the elements of dance and the tools of composition in a variety of performance situations. Students will identify responsible personal and interpersonal practices related to dance processes and production, and will apply technologies and techniques throughout the process of creation to develop artistic scope in the dance arts. NOTE: Grade 9 students may select this course. Prerequisite: None This course emphasizes the development of students’ artistry, improvisational and compositional skills, and technical proficiency in dance genres from around the world. Student will apply dance elements, techniques, and tools in a variety of ways, including performance situations; describe and model responsible practices related to the dance environment; and reflect on how the study of dance affects personal and artistic development. Prerequisite: previous dance experience or ATC2OR This course offers students the chance to explore dramatic techniques and forms in an introductory manner. Students will experiment with lights, sound, and performance techniques as they eventually master and produce a small-scale production. This course will help students become more confident and comfortable when working with other people, presenting, or being themselves. Grade 10 Drama continues to hone your performance and technical skills within the theatre. In this course, students will examine a variety of sources from various cultures and genres. This course offers a more in-depth look at dramatic techniques and conventions. By the end of the semester, students will develop a collaborative performance. Recommended background: ADA 1OR Students will prepare for the rigors of the theatre showing commitment to the subject and passion for performance. Students will examine and analyze a variety of drama works and explore the many areas for creativity within the profession. Students will also engage in community-based, collaborative drama beyond the walls of their classroom. Prerequisite: ADA 1OR or ADA 2OR In the final drama course at Weldon, students will examine both the practical and the academic sides of the art, both individually and collaboratively. Students will delve into the historical foundations of drama as well as creating and producing major performances for large audiences, that extend well beyond their classmates. They will explore all of the aspects of creating, researching, developing, mounting, producing, and performing a dramatic production. Prerequisite: ADA 3MR This two-year course meets the expectations of its Ontario Curriculum counterparts and provides students with a strong foundation for University studies in Theatre. This course is comprised of four interrelated components: Theatre in the Making, Theatre in Performance, Theatre in the World and the Independent Project and Journal. Students will explore varied forms of theatre through practical application, study dramatic works and theory from different time periods, and examine theatre traditions from diverse cultures. Emphasis is also placed on critical analysis and reflection. In the second year of study students will complete an Independent Project wherein they create and present an original piece of work. Some time will be spent learning other forms of music: percussion, guitar, vocals, ukulele, digital music, etc. This is an overview course intended as a taste of multiple forms of music. This course is designed for students to explore a variety of media platforms. This will include demonstrating extensive skills in photoshop to create advertisements, infographics, and digital art. Students will also explore video editing in methods such as stop motion and claymation. Theory and analysis exercises will complement creative tasks. Prerequisite: None This course is designed for students to explore a variety of media platforms. This course is designed for students who are ready to take action with their art skills in a collaborative setting with projects that respond to community needs. What is the role of art in our community? How can art be used to reflect or respond to our community in new ways? This capstone course is meant as an opportunity for experienced art students to take action with their art skills with ambitious projects that build skills for engaging in their community as active artist-citizens. It is designed for students who have successfully completed a grade 12M level course in visual arts, media arts or design. This course is offered in semester two.
