Arts – Group Six 

(Diploma students must choose this if they have not chosen two from any other group.)

 

Visual Arts

Higher Level – AVI3MB, AVI4MB + one course from AWD, AWT or AWQ.  (Diploma students who are unable to schedule this need to make accomodations with the teacher to obtain the neccessary course hours.)

Standard Level – AVI3MB, AVI4MB

This two-year course meets the expectations of its Ontario components. Students participate in studio technique workshops and art history discussions, both of which reinforce intercultural understanding and critical thinking skills. This course enables the completion of a strong personal portfolio that will be judged by the International Baccalaureate Organization.  The final internal and external assessments are based on submission of selected Investigative Work Book pages, images of studio work and either a recorded interview or written statement of insights regarding his/her work produced over two years.  Successful fulfillment of this course may provide an increased chance at being accepted into any Visual Arts related university or college programme. Successful HL students may be eligible for university transfer credits.

Prerequisite: AVI1OR or AVI2OR (60% for IB Diploma students; 70% for IB Course students)
These courses may be followed as a single IB Course, as part of a group of IB courses or as an element of the full IB Diploma.

 
Theatre Arts
Standard Level – ADA3MB, ADA4MB

This two-year course meets the expectations of its Ontario Curriculum counterparts and provides students with a strong foundation for University studies in Theatre.. It is being offered for the first time to 2013 graduates.  Students must perform two different roles (actor, director, stage manager, lighting designer etc.) in at least two theatre productions during the two courses.

This course is comprised of four interrelated components: Theatre in the Making, Theatre in Performance, Theatre in the World and the Independent Project and Journal. Students will explore varied forms of theatre through practical application, study dramatic works and theory from different time periods, and examine theatre traditions from diverse cultures. Emphasis is also placed on critical analysis and reflection. In the second year of study students will complete an Independent Project wherein they create and present an original piece of work.
