All Trillium Lakelands District School Board schools and buildings will fly their flags at half-mast from May 31 to June 8, 2021.
The bodies of 215 children were discovered last week during a search of the grounds of a former residential school in Kamloops, British Columbia. This 9 day remembrance will represent one hour for each child whose life was taken at this location as part of the cultural genocide inflicted on the first peoples of Canada.
We extend our sympathies to the families of these children and of the thousands of children who were sent to residential schools, many who never returned. We commit to continuing our learning about the lives forever impacted by the residential school experience in Canada.
