On November 18, IE Weldon Secondary School (IEWSS) teacher, Jordan Batty visited Queen Victoria Public School’s (QVPS) Kindergarten class to present the classroom teachers with a student-made gift.
QVPS principal, Bill Thompson, reached out to Batty with the idea of a mud kitchen for students to play with at recess. Batty presented the project to his Grade 11 construction class and student, Tacia Williamson was thrilled to start working. Williamson designed, gathered materials, and built the kitchen set for her culminating project.
“We have wonderfully talented students and teachers in Trillium Lakelands District School Board,” said Thompson. “We appreciate Mr. Batty’s and Tacia’s support, as well as the opportunity for our students to learn about the exciting pathways available in our secondary schools.”
“We were so excited to see the beautiful kitchen that was delivered to us this week. Tacia did an amazing job building this piece for our little learners to enjoy and it has already been such a big hit in our classroom,” said QVPS teacher, Jen Gignac and designated early childhood educator, Shauna Tomlinson. “Thank you to Mr. Batty for making this happen and to Tacia for creating such a wonderful addition to our classroom!.”
